When you see the chiropractor you may here the word "restriction". This is when a joint is basically stuck or not moving properly. When a vertebrae in the spine or another joint is misaligned it gets restricted.
"The Body is Very Smart"
If one vertebrae is restricted the body picks up the slack somewhere else. Let's say we have a restriction at C6. Typically C5 and/or above more a little easier and C7 or below move a little more. On the same subject this is often why someone may hear "cracking and popping" constantly in their necks, that doesn't seem to fix itself. Those joints that are moving a little easier are doing all the "cracking" while that one segment is still out of place or stuck.
You may get a little motion back in the restricted area with a pop or two which can feel better temporarily. We want to feel better all the time though so we need to do something that consistently correct neck alignment. This is who the cervical traction pillow comes in for. Even if you go to your chiropractors office, the pillow will help you hold that adjustment and alignment better correcting the problem quicker and preventing future neck pain.
