According to a recent article in Web MD a school aged child needs an extra 27 minutes of sleep in order to be more productive the next day. A recent study in Pedriatics studied 34 healthy children and found that those who go an extra 27 minutes of sleep during sleep tiime during a one week period were brighter, less impulsive, less distractible.They were also less likely to have tamper tantrums or cry often and easily according to their parents and teachers. Interestingly although not surprisingly, losing one hour of sleep had the opposite effect. This is an important study for parents of school aged children.
