Sure, sore neck muscles may benefit from a good massage. Whether it's to help the vertebrae fall back into place or relax a spasm - these are only 2 things, but there's other benefits too!
I know someone with PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), among other problems. Having a neck massage really helps him.
Someone else has multiple sclerosis - and it appears to give them some short term relief for some of the symptoms.
I recently saw a doctor that gave upper cervical massage to autistic children - and it seemed beneficial to them.
Another thing I saw is how it helped lymph drainage. Yes, there is a lymph system the body has and it drains as well. We know that inflammation drainage can be helped, lymph is much the same.
It's not exactly the neck but I know of also sinus draining (mostly facial massage) and skull massage or occipital massage that helps.
Why can these things help so much? The main control center of the body is the brain and nervous system. The neuromusculoskeletal system refers to the bones, nerves, and muscles. These all work together - for instance, nerves travel in muscles.
Here's some self massage you can do...
Tilt your head to one side (in other words: bring one ear to one shoulder. Take the hand from the opposite side, make a fist, and drag the knuckles down from the ear to shoulder.
Think of other area of the body where massage can give benefits besides muscle pain relief to that region...
How bout the stomach - sure it may benefit a strained abdominal muscle but let's say someone is dealing with constipation. This may help someone go to the bathroom.
Or maybe a foot massage - will it help relieve foot pain? Maybe? But there has become an entire health field that has come about because of its results. That field is referred to as Reflexology.
And there's many more health problems it may benefit.
